The Biology Association, AICUF–Ecology Commission, and the Department of Zoology of St. Joseph’s College for Women (A), Visakhapatnam, jointly organized a Panel Discussion on the occasion of World Ozone Day on 19th September 2025. This year’s theme was “From Science to Global Actions.”
The distinguished speakers highlighted the urgent need to protect the ozone layer, calling it the Earth’s protective shield.
• Dr. P. Roopavani, Reader & Head, Department of Zoology, Government Degree College, Vizianagaram, emphasized the significance of the ozone layer and symbolically suggested the use of an umbrella as protection against harmful UV rays.
• Mr. S. Ravikanth Reddy, Founder Partner, Zenith Impact Works LLP, underlined the role of every responsible citizen in safeguarding the planet through sustainable lifestyles.
• Dr. K. Manikyakumari, Head, Department of Botany, SJCW, explained the scientific causes of ozone depletion and its adverse impacts.
• Dr. E. Harini, Head, Department of Zoology, SJCW, spoke on the importance of the Montreal Protocol and stressed the need to protect all flora and fauna, including marine life.
The program was effectively coordinated by Dr. Rosina George, Faculty Coordinator, Biology Association, and Dr. P. Mary Anupama, AICUF Coordinator. Faculty members from the Departments of Botany, Zoology, AGRD, and Biochemistry attended the event. The panelists also provided insightful answers to thought-provoking questions raised by the students.
This program not only enhanced awareness among students about the importance of the ozone layer but also inspired them to become proactive partners in environmental protection.
