World Prematurity Day is celebrated every year on November 17 to create awareness about premature babies.
This morning, the 2K Walkathon was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Visakhapatnam Commissioner of Police Shri. Sankhabrata Bagchi, at Beach Road. In the evening, the event was celebrated at VMRDA (VUDA), Children's Arena under the auspices of Dr.Sai Sunil Kishore, Neonatologist.
Every year, approximately 15 million babies are born prematurely. All babies born prematurely, i.e. between 23 and 37 weeks, should be considered premature babies. However, babies born before 37 weeks are classified as ‘premature’, while babies born before 28 weeks are classified as ‘extremely premature’. All of them have health problems at birth and also face many problems as they grow up. Especially, it should be said that the problems are more for extremely premature babies who come out of the mother’s womb in a very short time. The organs inside the baby are not fully developed and it is very important to take special care and extra care for the baby. This is because the development of babies depends on the environment outside the womb. "Premature babies have neurodevelopmental and respiratory problems. This is because their lungs are not fully developed and they lack surfactant, a substance that helps the lungs function normally. This puts them at risk of severe respiratory distress and respiratory failure. This is a major concern for these babies. When babies are born prematurely, they are deprived of the rich nutrition they receive from their mothers. Babies born before 32 weeks cannot breastfeed directly. They have complications such as respiratory distress, hemodynamic instability, acidosis, sepsis, etc. These babies are breastfed within the first hour of birth to prevent infections associated with long-term parenteral nutrition, which can develop quickly to take complete feeds. Until these babies are able to take direct feeds from their mothers, they are fed expressed breast milk (EBM) through a feeding tube in the NICU. Pregnant women who are at risk of preterm birth are advised to breastfeed very early. You should reach a hospital with all the facilities. You should make sure that all the medical facilities provided to the children are available in that hospital immediately after delivery. The sugar levels of premature babies should be kept in order. Otherwise, premature babies risk losing their lives within four days. To prevent this from happening, the babies should be kept in an incubator and treated with the help of a ventilator. If we can provide proper treatment to such children, we can save them.
Dr.Sai Sunil Kishore is a neonatologist who has experience of serving about 8000 premature babies. He said that if such babies are taken to the right hospital at the right time and given the right treatment, we can save them. About 200 families participated in this program.
Dr.Garuda Rama, Dr.Vidyarama, Dr.Geethavandana, Dr.Radhika, Dr. KTV Laxman, Dr.Vijay, Dr.Mounika Dr.Sravanthi, Dr.Priyanka and Center Head Dr. Srikanth participated. Finally, the cultural programs impressed the children a lot.
