The Department of Bio-Chemistry at St. Joseph’s College, Visakhapatnam successfully organized inter-college competitions on “Cancer: Let’s Talk, Let’s Act” on 20th February 2026, according to the college Principal Dr. Sr. Shyji. Around 130 students from Andhra University, ANITS, VITS, Bullayya, Saint Anne’s, AQJ, Prism, and V. S. Krishna colleges participated, sharing their thoughts on cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.The chief guest, Dr. Sheetal Madan, delivered a speech on “Prioritizing Mental Health – Awareness on Cancer”, emphasizing the need to give mental health its due importance. Guest of honor Major S. Subbarao highlighted that due to family responsibilities, women often neglect their health, which prevents early detection of cancer.Convener Dr. P. Mary Anupama stressed the importance of fostering sensitivity among youth regarding nutrition, lifestyle changes, and cancer awareness. Co-Convener Dr. Moushmi Shankar extended special thanks to all the participating colleges for sending their students and acknowledged their support.The event included poster presentations, video-making, PowerPoint presentations, and quiz competitions, which enhanced students’ creativity and awareness. College faculty Dr. Harini, Dr. Padma Sundari, Dr. Rosina, and PRO Dr. P. K. Jayalakshmi attended the program. Prizes were awarded to the winners by Dr. K. Manikya Kumari HoD Botany.
