International Mother Language Day was celebrated grandly on Saturday at St. Joseph’s College under the supervision of the Department of Second Languages.
Principal Dr. Sr. Shyji stated that the mother tongue plays a vital role in personality development and the preservation of culture. Faculty members Dr. J. Nirmala, Dr. S. Deepti, Dr. D. Koteswara Rao, Venkataratnam, and Sr. Jain spoke on the importance of mother languages, along with the need to learn other languages such as Sanskrit, English, and French. The details of the programme were shared by PRO Dr. P. K. Jayalakshmi.
Students impressed the gathering with songs and poetry recitations in their respective mother tongues. Prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions. A large number of students participated in the celebrations.
