Under the aegis of the Department of Biochemistry, St. Joseph’s College, an inter-collegiate competition on the theme “Cancer: Let’s Talk, Let’s Act” will be conducted on 20th February from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The competitions are open to Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.

On this occasion, the event brochure was officially released today by the Principal of the college, Dr. Sr. Shyji P.D

The programme will include competitions such as PowerPoint presentations, Poster presentations, Quiz, and Video making. The main objective of the event is to create awareness among students about cancer, its prevention, early detection, myths and facts, and supportive care. The initiative also aims to promote scientific thinking and social responsibility among students.

Speaking on the occasion, the Principal Dr. Sister Shaizy emphasized the growing need for cancer awareness in the present scenario. She stated that lifestyle-related cancers are on the rise and encouraged students to think about ways to prevent cancer through healthy habits, regular screening, and awareness. She also called upon students to become health ambassadors in society.

The brochure release ceremony was attended by Dr. Bhaskara Sudha, Dr. P. K. Jayalakshmi, Dr. Sujatha, Dr. Harini, Dr. Padma Sundari, Dr. Rosina, Sony, and Urmila.

The event is being organized with Dr. Anupama as Convener and Dr. Mousami as Co-Convener. They stated that the competitions are being conducted to spread awareness about cancer, its prevention, and available treatment options. They added that students can pass on this awareness to their families and future generations, thereby contributing to the building of a healthier society.

The programme will also feature a guest lecture by cancer treatment specialist Dr. Sheetal Madan, along with various student competitions on awareness-related sub-themes.
